What is the rationale behind India,s stand that the Italian ambassador not be allowed to leave India as there is an effective agreement under the Geneva convention that only the country to which the diplomat belongs can withdraw this immunity.What India can do is to declare him as persona non grata.

The recent violence against a hapless girl in Delhi is heart breaking. It is paradoxical that since molestation against a women is a non bailable offence under section 354 of IPC,police take it as lightly which pave the way for the wrong doers roaming free without being arrested .Even though there is provision for life imprisonment up to 10 years under section 354A of IPC, will not be suffice enough to root out this evil from the society. There should be a paradigm shift from the school level. Children should be taught to look at the relationship through the lens of equality. there should be a through change in the education system,Media,Sports culture,Govt,Courts and the faith communities etc.So we can lay to rest the damaging, outmoded values of men and masculinity.    

America has a dubious distinction of taking the lives of innocents by guns.It is because the people can easily buy gun as easily as buying other house hold items.If this tread goes unabated,US will be a land of utter turmoil.It is shocking indeed that almost 90% of the total population in US is having Guns.It is quite natural that if they are in possession with guns they will be tempted to shoot to have Quick solution to a problem,even though it would have been solved by negotiation or compromise.Now a days an average house hold without gun in their possession is more safe than with it It is High time that the govt should amend their laws more stringent to see that license for gun is not Given to every house hold on mere application until and unless it is proved that it is a prerequisite For them.

It is paradoxical that even the church run hospitals are not better than that of others in providing better remuneration and conducive working conditions to the nursing fraternity.it seems that they are deliberately ignoring the KCBC directive issued through pastoral letters that the issues plaguing the nursing fraternity should not be allowed to persist in our institutions. All the managements irrespective of the religious clout are continuing this exploitation. The unresolved strike by the apostles of poor in one of the medical college run by the archdiocese of Trissur is an ample testimony to this. It is an apology of the common man that KCBC labor commission should take up the matter immediately and to see that further exploitation is not repeated.

Actually the caste based reservation was supposed to uplift the underprivileged castes and making a space at the national level in terms of academic degrees and public employment.But we find that the privileged class among the so called backward sections gets the maximum benefit at the education and employment level.Ideally the reservation was to be discontinued after two successive generations.It is a true fact that after three generations of reservation.the benefits has not reached to the true disadvantaged.Those benefited out of this are competent enough with those in the general categories.But it still continuing as it is politically inconvenient for a government to discontinue this practice out rightly.

It is not a negative vote but an anticipation of the people for a good governance..if they give ample majority the politicians will have a natural tendency to deviate from their election promises and if both parties get equal seats that will amount to formation of a hung assembly.So it is the prime duty to be in sync with the aspirations of the people.

DAUNTING INFLATION

The revelations on 2G spectrum sales,Adarsh property scam, Commonwealth games scandal etc generated a breeding ground for the growth of inflation and extremism. This challenge cannot be met by superficial administrative action, but it requires a political will to ensure egalitarian growth. But unfortunately due to the advent of neo liberalization and globalization whatever the action taken by the central govt along with monetary regulation by RBI proved to be counter productive. This is because of the lack of will at the administrative level to regulate the supply side by ensuring equitable distribution of 13 essential commodities trough fair price shops at subsidized prices. Let the central govt should make good the additional cost born by the respective state govts by way of subsidization. The present drive of the central govt to unearth the black money is followed by regulating the supply side, the Indian economy will quickly recover to normalcy than what was felt in other western countries.

The incident of a women having fallen from a speeding train in her bid to escape from the attack of a hooligan and her tragic death has awfully cast a shadow on the prestige of Indian railway. According to the survey amongst the total commuters travel across more than 65000 kms of the Indian railway network, half of them represent women. The announcement of the Railway minister during her budget presentation in 2010 that the security of women passengers would be increased has not been materialized.. The attacks on women are increasing day by day and the culprits running scot-free. Hence it is high time that Indian railway should take concrete steps to enhance the security of women passengers by providing security personals in ladies compartments especially in trains running during night and not permitting any access to male passengers and venders. The offender of this heinous crime should be given punishment not lesser than death penalty as a warning to those follow suit

Revised guidelines for Engineering Exam

The decision of the education minister regarding the revised guidelines for preparation of rank lists by taking in to account the marks obtained in +2 exam with that in the entrance exam in equal weightage is hasty and without much logical home work.
Entrance examination is a testing grounds for any student to evaluate one’s capabilities and abilities in respect of admission to a professional college in relation to one,s chosen academic stream. Over the years the entrance examination has gained high importance and the inability in conducting the exam in a fair manner might have generated controversies which have affected the students ,parents and administrators. The logic behind introducing these as formal procedure was varied marks of different school boards could not be used to create a common merit list. These entrance exams are basically multiple-choice questions or popularly known as MCQs in the academic lingo. This pattern was introduced as it was considered that the scores obtained by students on conventional, long answer papers which might not represent the actual potential of the student. So the educational authorities should think over it twice before introducing a sweeping change in the exam pattern for selection of students to professional colleges.

GOOD GOVERNANCE

The article ‘Awami league Rising to the challenge’(Jan-17)is a befitting tribute to Sheik Hasinas good governance. It is the mandate of the people who were eager to see the exit of the military backed rule. she could make a sweeping change and took many major decisions as she promised before the 2008 general election. As the writer rightly said the two year period is not enough to judge a govt which was supposed to have been elected for a five year term. However much during this short term the major decisions includes tough handling of religious extremists, Trial of criminals of 1971 war of liberation and also opened a new vista of in the relations with China.The recent visit of the PM to Delhi is a clear testimony of the beginning of a new era in India Bangladesh relations. Not withstanding the criticism from the opposition, the political leadership of both countries took major decisions such as Bangladesh for the first time allowed India,Nepal,Butan to use Chittagong and Mongla sea ports and India allowed Bangladesh to transit through its territory for trade with Nepal and Butan.This is the ripe time for both Govts to have course correction and focus on certain areas in which it failed to make substantial changes

The Editorial “our cotton, their onion(Jan 13) made interesting reading. The floods in Pakistan has affected the cotton crop and is reeling by short supply of of this commodity for their domestic and yarn industry, which is considered to be the main stay of its fragile economy. At the same time the unseasonable rain has affected the onion crop in India. India has cotton in surplus for their export and Pakistan has more than enough onions for their disposal. If both countries shed their embittered relations and come forward for mutual talks, both countries will be mutually benefited and not only that it will pay the way for a paradigm shift in India /Pakistan relations
